Introducing Early Release Wednesdays
The 2024-25 Academic Calendar is now out and it includes a very important change! KIPP Memphis will be introducing early release Wednesdays. Beginning next school year, dismissal will begin at 1:00 pm on Wednesdays, allowing teachers to participate in PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) and other professional development activities.
Based on surveys of teachers and administrators, more protected time is needed for teachers to engage in data analysis, PLCs, structured work time, and other professional development. Our hope is that by adding the abbreviated day, we will provide teachers with additional time during contract hours to engage in opportunities that have a positive impact on the quality of instruction, student achievement and student/teacher well-being. By providing teachers with this time, we believe our students will have access to even stronger classroom instruction and achieve even more.
We understand that this change may require adjustments for our KIPPsters and families, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition.
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM?
For parents who are unable to pick up their students on time, we have an opportunity to partner with a licensed after-school care service, however we need at least 40-45 families to participate. The care would be provided during the full week and not just on Wednesdays, until 6 p.m. Please fill out this interest survey if you would like to participate or are considering participation. This program could offer an opportunity for parents who encounter difficulties in picking up their child early on Wednesdays, and support during the rest of the week.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we implement this change to further support the professional growth of our teachers and enhance the educational experience for our KIPPsters.
