Mrs. Tonye Smith-McBride

My name is Tonye Smith-McBride, and I am honored to be selected as the new principal of KIPP Memphis Collegiate High! Since my very first day, I knew that KIPP is a unique and special place. Thank you for welcoming me into the Collegiate High family, and for allowing me to continue serving a school community with great scholars, parents, and educators.

I am a native Memphian who grew up in South Memphis and knows firsthand the experiences of many of our students. I am a proud Memphis City Schools graduate of Overton High School. I began my teaching career with Memphis City Schools as a US History, World History, and US Government teacher. I have over 17 years of leadership experience in middle schools, most recently at Woodstock Middle School. I have served as Principal of A. Maceo Walker Middle and Treadwell Middle, which were both recognized by the Tennessee Department of Education as TN Reward Schools.

My commitment to you is to establish a strong, nurturing culture focused on academic excellence, while developing student leaders, enhancing our extracurricular activities, and exposing all students to college and career experiences.   As principal, it is important that parents understand how needed and valued you are in the overall success of our KIPPsters. We cannot do this work without you!

I will build relationships and partnerships in our North Memphis community, but I want to begin with you – our parents who trust KMCH to educate your student.
